About Us

The East Kimberley Aboriginal Achievement Awards ('The EKAAAs') are an initiative of Wunan (www.wunan.org.au). The EKAAAs have developed into a special annual event that celebrates Indigenous achievement throughout the region, showcasing outstanding individuals and organisations that are helping to build stronger local communities. The focus is on identifying and rewarding the leaders and quiet achievers who tirelessly give back to the community in many different ways.

The EKAAAs aim to:

  • Identify positive role models within our Aboriginal community;
  • Contribute to a growing culture of success and progress in Aboriginal communities;
  • Encourage Aboriginal participation in the many social and economic opportunities of our region;
  • Share ideas and draw inspiration from winners and nominees;
  • Provide a positive forum for building understanding, trust and cooperation between Aboriginal and non-Aboriginal people.

Nomination categories highlight the following areas of achievement:

  • Young Achievers — the key to our future
  • Outstanding Achievers — the people who build communities
  • Community — nurturing our future
  • Employment, Training and Business — a working future
  • Positive Role Models — leading the way

There are 14 different award categories in which to nominate.

Nominations can be submitted online, emailed, or faxed – see details
